Genesco, Inc., a retailer and wholesaler of branded footwear, replaced its homegrown systems with systems from outside vendors. Genesco implemented Essentus International, Inc.'s Merchandising System in a fourth division and completed the deployment of its new inventory and information management system. All divisions of Genesco are now live with the Essentus supply chain system. Genesco had been using a homegrown legacy system for its merchandising applications, but when the number of stores across all of its divisions exceeded 700, it decided that it needed a more flexible and scalable merchandising system to support its growth. Genesco was also looking for a better distribution of its inventory from warehouse to store when it made this decision. This final implementation completes a long-term project to migrate Genesco's previous systems to an IBMRS/6000 S80 platform running an Oracle database on a UNIX and Windows NT client/server network. Merchandising System is integrated with software from PeopleSoft, STR, Commander, and Cognos as well as Oracle.
