In five years, the notion of a user interface as a thin façade will evolve into something different. We’ll see it deepened into a pervasive layer for user interaction or, as Bruce Richardson has called it, a personal productivity layer that spans between established enterprise systems and the user in his or her work environment—whatever that work environment happens to be.
