Bill Swanton brings more than 28 years of enterprise manufacturing expertise to his role as Vice President, Research Fellow. He is responsible for the firm’s research in the Business Value of IT, including IT benefit realization techniques used by Fortune 1000 companies to expand the value they receive from their ERP investments. Recent areas of focus have been business and process modeling, BPM/SOA, master data management and B2B e-commerce. He was part of the team that developed AMR Research’s Performance-driven Business Networks (PBN), which incorporates many of these concepts. Bill has also analyzed the high tech and discrete industries, with a specific focus on how brand owners, contract manufacturers, and other suppliers manage global demand-driven supply networks (DDSN).

Bill’s tenure at AMR Research has enabled him to work in a variety of roles at the company. He built the manufacturing strategies service from a single analyst to a team of vertical industry specialists covering aerospace & defense, automotive, chemical, CPG, high tech, and life sciences. In this role, he led the development of the firm’s REPAC model of manufacturing processes. Bill also launched AMR Research’s product lifecycle management coverage in 1997 and continues to follow its role in the larger enterprise architecture.

Prior to his many roles with AMR Research, Bill held numerous product marketing and IT positions and gained experience within the manufacturing software, controls, and automation systems markets. He worked in the manufacturing systems division of Kronos Incorporated. He also worked for ITP Group and its MainStream subsidiary in various consulting and product marketing roles. Bill began his career at the C.S. Draper Laboratory as a systems engineer and software development team leader.

Bill holds a BS in physics and an MS in computer science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
